  Haha, they like to quote the scripture "the women proclaiming the good news are a large army" to make the ladies feel important at least in some way. But if women are like the army, the men are the sargents, generals etc. Women do the grunt work and but can't "teach" from the stage.

  I never had "fun" writing or giving a talk. They don't even let sisters do the part on just reading the bible. Why is that? I guess they want to make sure there is a dividing line from an early age between the sexes. No little girl gets to just stand and read scriptures.

  lol Sail Away - talk about anxiety over making them! I would rewrite it like up to the day of the talk. You had to make another sister take time out of their lives to practice.

  And I think the WT took perverse pleasure in how they made a listing of (what did they call them?) guidelines or make believe settings? And you were supposed to use only one of them and then move on to another. I had one zealous ex bethelite conductor change my setting right before I gave the talk - because I had already used it! It made no sense with the talk I was giving.

  On the other hand, the bro's just stood at the front and passed out info. Nothing complicated.

  I've always wanted the bro's to have to do a talk with a "householder" They complain how hard it is to give a talk, try making up a scenario as well as what the other person is going to say.

  A Question About Elders Knowing About Child Molesters

  supposedly the society sent a letter out on march 14, 1997 to all elders contained an instruction that inadvertently admitted they had a big problem: “the body of elders should give the society a report on anyone serving or who formerly served in a society-appointed position in your congregation who is known to have been guilty of child molestation in the past.” .

  can anyone here confirm/or not that this was a real letter that was sent to elders?.

  a former child molester has reference to the perception of that one in the community and in

  the Christian congregation. In the eyes of the congregation, a man known to have been a

  child molester is not “free from accusation” and “irreprehensible,” nor does he have “a fine

  testimony from those on the outside.” (1 Tim. 3:1-7, 10; 5:22; Titus 1:7) In view of his past,

  people in the community would not respect him, and the brothers might even stumble over his

  appointment.

  Much like the Shepard the Flock book, only if a pedophile is KNOWN would he not be able to be in a leadership role.

  Meaning if people in the congregation don't know, it ok to use this person in the hall.

  What JW habits do you still have?

  since leaving the jw's after over 4 decades, i can see exactly what it is and hate everything it stands for.

  however, there are still some jw habits and traits that i can't get rid of:.

  1. i can't swear in general conversation (i'd have to be really angry).

  I resisted swearing but now have to restrain myself around the JW's at work so that things don't get awkward. Now I know in some ways, what a non JW spouse feels like lol.

  You also end up learning about your own moral base because there isn't a God that is going to punish/reward you.

  "Blood Guilty"

  guilt is such a wonderful tool used by the jehovah’s witnesses.

  one of the terms they love to use is the term “blood guilty.” they have actually used this term to guilt their members into doing more and more “house to house activity” yes, they have said on numerous occasions at their kingdom halls and other major gathering that a person “could be blood guilty” for not going out in the field service activity enough.

  the reason is simple.

  Feeling responsible for other peoples lives can put you in dangerous situations too. Making yourself walk up to a person you would normally avoid to offer them magazines - as a woman, I often felt stressed. I thought I should go talk to that crazy person, but couldn't make myself do it. How many others have ignored their gut feelings that something is not safe, just to save themselves from being Blood Guilty?

  i wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has posted here as i have been reading all of them.

  i have realized that i am not alone in my struggles and the realization that the " truth" is a bunch of crap.

  i have been over come with emotion over the last years or so.

  I'm curious about how they are picking these speakers. This guy does gestures like he's never done them in his life.

  When I looked at the bible without the WT glasses, I realized that JW's spreading the Good News, was in contrast to what the bible said.

  And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world--to every nation, tribe, language, and people.

  So they are wasting their time cause an angel has already been assigned to do that. Not that I believe the bible anymore.

  I was also disappointed with the bait and switch approach with the convention vid. I wanted to see a JW marching around declaring everyone is going to die - too late for you! But we will never get one from the WT. I wish I had the ability to make vids. I'd have Tony listening to the talk and imagining giant hailstones crushing buildings and people and then you see it hit an ice cream truck. Then he'd jump up and shout "No not the Ice Cream" and then everyone would be staring at him for a few seconds until he gave a weak smile and waved as he sat back down.

  Pennsylvania abuse scandal

  and all that jws in my area have been talking about gleefully.

  It is a chance to do some trickery I say. Of course it is up to you if you want to do this. But I would make some comments after they bashed the Catholics and their faith.

  Any religion that hides such terrible crimes, can't be the true religion right?

  I wonder how many Catholics are saying "Well the pope -archbishop etc are just men and they make mistakes! Aren't children's well being, physical and mental, worth protecting? Why didn't they go to the police? Only a religion that is more interested in saving face and money, tells their followers not to take it to the authorities.

  It would be great if they agreed or added something similar. Then hopefully soon, when the WT is taking to task in a public way, you can remind them they thought those things were terrible about another religion, why aren't they taking the same stance for the WT?

  Might give it a try. I do stuff like that at work. Never know when the last straw will happen for a JW.
